There is so much more to sharpening, than just angles! Learn the broader theory and reasoning behind ensuring you are using your best edge!

Eligible for 4 PACE approved credits

One of the most contentious issues for a dental clinic can be surrounded by the hygiene department with regards to the cost of instruments and the necessity to replace instruments.

How many instruments are required?

How frequently should hand instruments be sharpened?

Is a hygienist over sharpening or under sharpening?

Course objectives:

1.This hands-on workshop will take an objective look at instrument kits, participant’s’ current skills in sharpening and determine if they have retained and maintained their blades and review common errors.

2. Participants will  SHARPEN three groups of instruments with three different methods. An opportunity to experience different stones, cards and a mechanical method of fine tuning your edges.

3. Create two different instrument kits for 4 different cases. Learn which instruments to select to achieve optimal outcomes.

4.Review of diagnostic skills and understand why to diagnose patients prior to sharpening.

Be proactive with this workshop! Prepare for the instrumentation complexities hygienists face daily!

What People Say

Slide
“… achieved MASTERY OF PERIODONTAL THERAPY using her exceptional abilities… Laura has improved our office clinical and organizational systems with a systematic plan…”

Dental Hygiene has many levels of care. It is with years of experience, training, skill, tenacity, and incredible passion that Laura has achieved MASTERY OF PERIODONTAL THERAPY using her exceptional abilities and a broad understanding of the overall patient. Having worked with Laura for over 5 years, I can truly say she is exceptional amongst her peers. Her education and experience, including general and periodontal practices, as well as her zest for knowledge and passion for learning, has elevated and expanded our periodontal program. We collaborate daily on patient care to include a comprehensive approach and have seen remarkable outcomes for our mutual patients. Laura has improved our office clinical and organizational systems with a systematic plan followed by team members to maximize our clinical time. Together, we have created protocols to help our patients with more advanced stages of periodontal disease including non-surgical management of peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis. She continues to stay active in her profession by mentoring colleagues helping to expand their abilities. I believe Laura will continue to impact the profession positively and elevate those she interacts with through her educational programs. What a pleasure to work with such a wonderful colleague who continues to help grow and develop our practice and improve our patient outcomes. We are fortunate to have someone who aspires for more in herself and also inspires others to elevate as professionals.
